New Skaters
*update* derby school Fall 2024
Enroll in Derby School this Fall! This 7-week course is Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Smoky Mountain Event Center in Waynesville, NC. Classes start on October 9th and continue through November 20th. Skaters who stay on after derby school will be drafted onto one of our home teams!!!
Have you been thinking about playing roller derby but have had hesitations? Well there is no time like the present to become a part of an incredible and empowering sport. Blue Ridge Roller Derby is always seeking new skaters. We have an open enrollment throughout our season.
We invite skaters age 18 and older to join one of fastest growing sports in the world. Whether you grew up at the roller rink, or have never worn skates in your life, there is a place for you to learn and grow with Blue Ridge Roller Derby.
In addition to open enrollment during the regular derby season, we host Derby School twice a year - typically once in the winter and once in late summer or early fall. Derby school is an eight-week course and is a fast track toward improving your skills for anyone looking to join.
In order to participate, you will need your own skates, helmet, mouth guard, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards. Blue Ridge Roller Derby has limited equipment available to borrow initially, if you do not yet own your own gear. The only thing you absolutely need to bring to your first skating practice is a heat-molded mouth guard.
